Marius sweater with raglan done!

It is finally finished, washed, blocked and ready to be worn! Actually Bård is wearing his sweater right now!

So this sweater is long overdue. I did promise Bård that I'd be making him a Marius sweater last year, but I kept putting it to the side for other projects. It is now finally done though, and I'm so happy about it! I didn't end up doing the traditional sweater since my sewing machine is old and doesn't want to cooperate with me, so raglan it was! I do not mind working in raglan, I feel like it gives a better fit than both sewn in sleeves and rond yoke, and it doesn't clump up and feel bulky either. But the traditional one looks better in general...and it is traditional... You know? I've only seen a Marius with raglan once before, so it's very untraditional indeed.

WIP: Marius raglan!

I should do more of these WIP posts... They are way far and few between...

Thought I'd share a few pictures of the Marius sweater I'm currently working on! I'm not that pleased with the raglan, but I guess it's my only choice since I don't have a working sewing machine... The tradisional Marius sweater has sewn in sleeves as I've stated before.

As you can see in this picture, I get these white stripes in the raglan... It's really annoying, but can't be helped since there's rounds in all white in the pattern. I'm not using any pattern for the raglan decreasing though, so I'm more or less winging it all. I do 8 decreases in total every second round. We'll see how it looks on him when I'm done. I might just have to redo it, work it as the traditional version and ask my mom for help with the sewing...

As the contrasting colour, I'm gonna use a lighter blue. The original has a red contrasting colour, but I figured I'd use blue instead since it's Bård's favorite colour (original, right?).

Grey Marius sweater DONE!

And it's done! Sorry for the lack of updates on this one... The lazy blogging syndrome came over me again...

Took me 10 days to complete this one! Excuse me while I give myself a highfive!

The yarn was a treat to work with! ...even though I didn't feel too much of a difference from the yarn I usually work with... Luckily, I did end up with some scraps, so I'll probably do some research on it compared to other, cheaper brands.

Yarn: Smart from Sandnesgarn
Needles: 3-3,5mm
Size: Adult size M

Anna's mittens!

On wednesday while I was still at my parent's house, we went to see Frozen in the cinnema along with my brother, sister in law and my three nieces. Frozen is supposed to be the movie to bring back Disney and it's supposed to be at the same level as The Little Mermaid. It's also predicted to be the start of a new age of great Disney films, just as they had in the 90's. And I can totally see it. Frozen was amazing and it fits in with the 90's movies, but I must say that I do hope Disney will come with another great 2D animated movie again soon... I've never been a fan of 3D and CGI and stuff...

This movie feel close to me for many reasons...first of, I love winter, snow and the cold. Second of all, Disney came over to Norway to get inspiration for this movie, even though the story it's based of is actually danish. And yes, I see alot of the inspiration. There's bunad inspired clothing all over the place, our traditional rosepainting wood carvings are there, our timber traditions can be seen in almost every house. Even the mountains and fjords are similar. And they got a choir of sami people doing the hymn...thingy... There are some things that Disney clearly missed on though. First of, there's a guy whom clearly has a stereotypical "scandinavian" accent...in American eyes atleast. But really, it's more german. But what makes it more confusing is that the guys has a jar of "lutefisk", which is some of the most norwegian stuff out there! And while the clothing are really bunad inspired, they have been modernized maybe a tad too much...
Funny enough though...americans LOVE this movie and critics have given it high scores and praise, while norwegians doesn't seem to like it that much. If it's because it hits and misses on some things or if the norwegian dub is bad, I don't know, but I enjoyed every part of it, and I saw it first on english!

Now why am I gushing about this on this blog? Well, Anna (from the movie) has a pair of mittens that I totally fell in love with and I am going to try and make them...sooner or later. Not sure if I got yarn for it allready in my storage, but if I do, I might actually start them later today. Did some research earlier and I got to find a good pattern for felted mittens and then get the snowflake diamond pattern from pictures...which are REALLY hard!
After a google search, this is all I found:

They show the snowflake diamond really good, and it's pretty close to the original one you can see in the movies, but the mittens them selfs are horrible!

So I decided to...get...the movie...yeah...*cough* and get some screenshots of my own...you know...for research! And while the movie was of very poor quality, these are the best ones I got. Alongside the one above here, I think I can manage to make a pair fairly close to those in the film.

What I won't be able to replicate though, are inside the palm of the mittens. They are a darker blue/grey color and doesn't cover everything, so I think I'll just have to skip that.
Got a feeling that my oldest niece will beg me for a pair of her own if they turn out good.

Welcome to my new blog!

Hello everyone! Welcome to my new and shiny blog!
...well, it's not that new since it's been up for quite some time by now...but this is the first blogpost!

I'm 24 years old...in two more days, cause january 3rd is my birthday! I live in Norway along with my boyfriend Bård (you international people may call him Bayaard...long story) and my cat Pepsi.
You may know me as KnitLizzy on deviantART...or maybe even LARvonCL

I decided to start this new blog to get just about everthing yarn related away from my other blog...since it's been drowning in that stuff lately and it is really supposed to be a videogame/goldsmith blog...cause that's why I made it and that's how it's designed...up until I lost my job cause of a stupid new owner and I started knitting 24/7 instead...which took over and made be dread posting anything related to other stuff. Well, enough about that. I got this new blog to unfold my knitting instead. And with the day by day progress, I'm hoping to wake my blogging skills up and active again on them both!

I was first thinking about doing knitting vlogs and post them on Youtube, but I'm afraid of hearing my own voice, and with speaking english since it's not my first language, I don't have the best pronounciation and I'm having trouble with verbs and words and what have you. This is easier and I can stay mute!

The reason why this blog is in english? Well, for one: I'm trying to reach out to a wider audience... Two: most of my crafting friends are international. I got this awesome crafting group on deviantART and we chat and have fun while we craft. Most of them are from America, but we also got some from Canada, England and Netherland. These are some of my dearest friends right now, and I'd hate to exclude them from this blog...expecially seeing how dreadfull Google Translate is...

But welcome! I hope you'll stay and enjoy my content! As I've stated, I'm hoping to document every day! ...as long as there's no secret projects going on...or if I don't knit one day... But I'm gonna try! AND there might be some content that's not knitting...and I'm not speaking of crocheting...but seeing as I'm a graduated goldsmith and I like to draw (when inspiration and motivation strike me), those crafts might pop up as well. I also got a sewing machine in the corner so I might do something with that in the future as well

So this is me, I'd be really happy if you'd leave me a comment, please excuse me having the security stuff on, but that's the only way for me to see if I got new comments and actually reply to them. See you all pretty soon!
